The first national park created was Yellowstone National Park (1872) encompassing the states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.
Yosemite National Park was created in 1890. Following soon were Crater Lake NP in Oregon (1902) ; Wind Cave (1903), Mesa Verde ( 1906), Denali, Alaska (1917), Grand Canyon, Zion and the first Easten National Park, Acadia, in 1919.
Shenanoah, although talked about extensively, never got offiically created until 1935.

Shenanoah National Park encompasses much of the Bue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. The park is long and narrow, with the Shenandoah River/Valley on the west side, and the rolling Piedmont on the east. The Skyline Drive scenic is the most prominent feature of the park; Hawkstill Mountain at 4,051 feet is the park's tallest mountain. The park is 105 miles miles long from near Front Ryal, Va to near the city of Waynesboro in the southwest.

Shenandoah National Park, started in Virginia in 1935, has 311 square miles of land including a vast network of trails along with a section of the Maine to Georgia Appalachian Trail. Mostly forested, the park features wetlands, waterfalls and rocky peaks like Hawksbill and Old Rag mountains. Shenandoah is home to many bird species, plus deer, squirrels and the elusive black bear.
