WindSong Farm is 90 acres located in the western section of Goochland County. This 90 acre parcel was originally owned by the Young America Gold Mining Company, a 308 acre area. Gold was panned from the creek and taken from deep shaft mines in the early 1900’s. Mine shafts still exist on various parts of the property.
As is the case with most new wineries, grape selection occurs after months of research. Finally, Dornfelder grapes were selected as they can easily and at a high quality level be made into a rich robust full-bodied wine, a lite refreshing sweet wine, or even a delicious port wine. Dornfelder wine is produced only at several other locations in the United States.
Thomas Jefferson was know for many things at his Monticello Home- one of which was the raising of grapes for wine. One can visit the wineries in Williamsburg, move on to the Richmond Area and then start on the Central Virginia Wine Trail www.virginia.org/getawayCVwinetrail at Monticello. The trail is not all sippin, as there are many festables and other events all along the way. Remember, the non-winter season is longer here than north of us!
