Cuyagoha Falls National Park (CFNP) resides on over sixty miles of land between Akron and Cleveland to the north. Unlike most national parks where one enters the park and then drives from place to place within the park, CFNP is a series of sites where one comes in and out of the park and then one drives on regular roads to the next part of the park.
The park is a very beautiful place--well worth visiting. The literature, maps, signs within the park, and information from the Visitor Center are helpful but not especially useful. One has to use a lot of basic logic and regular maps to figure out how to get around the park. Be prepared to talk to park rangers and volunteers and to use one's own logic to navigate the park.
The north end of the park is connected to the south end at Akron by two elements. One is the Cuyagoha Valley Scenic Railroad line that one can ride as a train (highly recomended) up and down the park. The other connector is the canal system that originated the park. Along with the non-operational locks on the canal, is a tow path that has become a bike path.
Start in the park by going to the middle to the Beaver Swamp Visitor Center. There is a 20 minute video and typical visitor center displays. In that area, there are several places worth visiting including the Beaver Swamp Area, and Brandywine Falls.
