MOUNT RUSHMORE NATIONAL MEMORIAL
Some pictures from Norman Lederwood/s trip. Thanks.
Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, the sculpture's roughly 60-ft.-high granite faces depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The site also features a museum with interactive exhibits.
If the Visitor's center is closed, there is a Sculptor's Studio down about 70 stairs to the right (as one looks at the four faces). There is also another way down to the Sculptor's Studio without steps and that is using a paved trail called the "Nature Trail". In the Sculpator's Studio, there is a ranger telling how the sculpator carved out the faces.
Keystone, SD 57751
Construction started: October 4, 1927

As a National Momument, there is no admission charge. Presently there is a $11.00/10.00 parking fee--well worth it--that will be reduced 50% if one is over age 62
